Tender Date of Trabzon Rail System Project Announced

The rail system project, which Trabzon has been waiting for years and has been on the agenda in every election period, is finally reaching a concrete schedule. Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç, heralding the transition of the project to the implementation phase, announced the date of the tender.

Implementation Project Finished, Tender is to be made in January

President Genç shared important information about the rail system project carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure in a programme he attended at Trabzon University. Genç stated that the most critical stage of the project has been completed and made the following statement:

“We have completed our application project, hopefully we will go to tender in January. I aim to finish the Akyazı-Meydan line during my term of office.”

This statement shows that the project is no longer just a vision, but has entered the official tender process. The project covers a total of 32 kilometres of Akçaabat-Trabzon-Yomra line and is expected to radically change the city’s transport spine when completed.

“We Want to See Rails, Not Promises”

Although this development is a great source of hope for the people of Trabzon, due to the postponements in the past, the question “The tender will be held in January, but when will the first digging take place?” remains on the agenda.

According to the statement of Mayor Genç, if there is no objection to the tender process, the construction works of the rail system are expected to start in February or March. The expectation of the people of Trabzon is that the project will be completed on time this time and the rail transport network between Akyazı-Meydan will be operational before the end of Genç’s term of office.
